When people hear you’ve bought a home, one of the first questions that often comes up is: “So, when are the kids coming?”

And while children are a beautiful reason many people choose homeownership, it’s 2025 — and more and more people are making different choices. Some are waiting, some choose not to have children at all, and many of us are building homes around what matters most in our lives.

For me, that means my dog, Shermie. 🐾

Why My Dog Was Part of My Home Search

Shermie came into my life through an amazing local shelter. He’s been my best companion, bringing so much joy and comfort. When I first adopted him, we lived in an apartment. And honestly? He didn’t mind it. Dogs are adaptable, and with enough walks, playtime, and love, he was content.

But when I moved onto just under two acres of land, everything changed. I can see it in his eyes, his energy, the way he runs freely. Shermie went from being a city boy to a farm boy overnight — and I’ve never seen him happier.
